Real Life Story
I am a full-time mother and full-time employee. Life for me is not slow at all. The stress of work and everything else was getting to me. I was having horrible headaches and did not know what to do. After seeing my Doctor and being referred to Orrock/Mendenhall Sports Medicine, I found out that I had tension headaches cause by tight muscles in my neck. After a few weeks of therapy, I feel great and no longer suffer from headaches. What I really appreciated is they taught me how to help myself get better. Thank you so much!

Cervical headaches, tension headaches, or occipital neuralgia are often caused by poor posture, too much time in front of the computer, stress, or a lack of proper postural awareness. Generally, the greater occipital nerve and its corresponding branches are aggravated by muscle spasms in the sub-occipital region. Patients commonly complain of pain starting at the base of their head and radiating up the back of their heads and around the temporal area. Many patients are frustrated and do not know where to turn.
At Orrock/Mendenhall Sports Medicine, we see the importance of patient education. With our team of therapists we emphasize a functional back school program and ergonomic instructions for your patients. We are able to educate your patients to help themselves learn how to overcome their headaches and reduce future occurrences. Using hands-on manual therapy techniques, we are also able to alleviate the muscle spasms aggravating the sub-occipital nerves.
To maximize your chances for optimal recovery, often a physician will suggest you consult with us to evaluate and modify your treatment and exercises to meet your specific needs. At Orrock/Mendenhall Sports Medicine, we have extended office hours, including Saturdays, in order to accommodate your patient’s busy work schedules.
