Knee Pain

When a patient gets into a physical therapy program within 24 hours of their injury, over 95% will be able to return to normal activities in 3-5 days.

Real Life Story

I was recently sent to Orrock/Mendenhall Physical Therapy because I was having problems with pain in my left knee. I had been involved in running and biking and decided that I wanted to start running longer distances. As soon as I went farther than 3 miles at a time my knee would hurt for 2-3 days afterward. When I first went in to see them I expected the normal treatment to reduce the pain, but they really went a lot further than that. They looked at how I walked, how I ran, checked my flexibility program and did a very thorough evaluation that included everything from how I go up and down stairs, to how I sit in class or in the car. I was amazed at what I learned about myself from them and how everything they taught me made sense. Now I know how to take care of myself and how to progress with my running. I would recommend Steve and Buck to anyone who wants to know how to stay active and still recover from an injury.

How many times do we here people say that they would better enjoy sports, hiking or general physical activity if their knees didn’t just ache every time they tried to be active? Or the people who do participate in some type of physical activity, but do so at the expense of needing some regular pain reliever so that they can just enjoy a bike ride or a hike with their kids? Chronic and recurring knee pain occur much more frequently than your patients will usually admit. Many times they think that the pain is just a normal reaction to their activity or that it may somehow be caused from genetics. “Well, my mother had bad knees, so I guess that’s why I have pain every time I do something physical”. Actually, the cause of frequent or recurring knee pain among our otherwise healthy and active population is caused from factors that we can control and address.

At Orrock/Mendenhall Professional Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine we focus on the functional aspects of why people have pain or difficulty with their desired activities. This approach helps them learn how to improve their mechanics, change their routine or otherwise change their approach to their sport or activity in such a way that their pain is a thing of the past. When you send your patients to us, we’ll take the time to evaluate the cause of their pain and educate them on how to treat themselves and get back into enjoying their activities without the pain.

To maximize your chances for optimal recovery, often a physician will suggest you consult with us to evaluate and modify
